All-Natural Skincare Substitutes That You Can Use While In Quarantine

While we no longer have the ability to go shopping, aimlessly roaming the aisles of Sephora, Ulta, or even our local boutique beauty shops; our skin should not get neglected. With many of us practicing social distancing at home; now is the perfect time to begin experimenting with your skin-care routine. Luckily, finding new products might be easier than you think. Here are five all-natural skin care products that are most likely already in your home.

Toner: Apple Cider Vinegar

If you are a someone with hyperpigmentation or acne scarring, using Apple Cider Vinegar as a toner, is the perfect new addition to your routine. With both anti-inflammatory and skin-smoothing properties, ACV is great for tightening skin and closing pores to give your face a more effortless glow. Simply combine ACV with water in your hands or a bottle (whichever you prefer) and apply it to your face. For more uses out of ACV, also try it as an exfoliator!

Facial mask: Turmeric and Honey

With more people loving DIY/at-home mask, turmeric has become a new favorite amongst the beauty community. This herb is a go-to for both eliminating redness and brightening your skin. There are many different combinations in which turmeric can be added to make a mask, but my favorite is mixing turmeric, honey, yogurt and ACV (another use!) to promote the health of your skin. Greatest part is that you most likely have all these materials in your kitchen cupboards.

Moisturizer/Makeup: Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is the gift that keeps on giving. For about a year now, I have been using coconut oil as a step after my toner. The fatty acids in coconut oil have antibacterial properties that will help fight against acne or breakouts which is something that so many people have been battling during quarantine. We are touching our faces more as a result of idle time at home, but our skin shouldn’t be put in jeopardy as a result! The second great thing about coconut oil is that it can double as a makeup remover!

Body Lotion: 100% Extra Virgin Olive oil

This has perhaps been my greatest hack in the last two years. Olive Oil is not only great for you internally and for your hair, but it is also an incredible body lotion. According to an article on goodhousekeeping.com, “Diana Gall, M.D., a general practitioner at Doctor4U, a confidential online doctor service based in the U.K, [states that] “Olive oil has many health benefits, particularly for your skin. It’s an antioxidant, so it prevents oxidation of the skin and may prevent premature aging and sun damage”. But make sure you are using 100% extra virgin oil with no additional ingredients when trying this product on your skin.

Serum: Vitamin E oil

It is never too soon to start using products that promotes anti-aging. Vitamin E oil is most likely one of the ingredients that is already in most serums but in using it in its natural form, you are not only eliminating the extra ingredients (such as fragrance) that might be a little harsh for your skin but you might also cut some cost as Vitamin E oil is pretty inexpensive.

So next time, you consider running to pick up groceries at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods or even looking in your cabinets, try thinking of ways you can incorporate these all-natural products in your skin care regime.
